THE HISTORY OF MIRAK

THE EARLY DAYS

In 1983, Mirak (named after Mir Abdulla Khoory) was originally known as a landscaping company, responsible for the beautification of Dubai during its early years. While the company was successful, Mr. Najieb Khoory, son of Mir Abdulla Khoory, saw an opportunity appearing on the horizon.

At that time, Dubai had very little quality local produce and relied heavily on international imports of fruits, vegetables and flowers. Najieb believed the future of Dubai lay in mastering the land and being able to produce high quality, high yield crops locally and then export them internationally.

Not everyone agreed. People doubted that the desert environment would be able to sustain significant agricultural efforts. Despite the negativity, Najieb's pioneering spirit meant he had to see his vision through.

INVESTING IN INFRASTRUCTURE

Khoory invested in building agricultural structures that would help grown his perfect crop - strawberries. A high yield, high value crop that if produced locally would provide the market with a cheaper and fresher option of produce.

TRIAL AND ERROR

By 1985, Mirak had successfully transitioned into agricultural services and by trial, error and research of the very latest technologies, had established strong growing techniques.

THE PATH TO SUCCESS

With time, patience and persistence, Najieb was soon able to produce the very strawberries that everyone had said would be impossible.

NO RISK, NO REWARD

Mirak was now able to bring a higher quality and fresher product to market for a fraction of the cost of the internationally imported products.

TAPPING INTO MARKETS

Within the first year, Mirak was producing over 200 tonnes of produce and exporting over 70% to the GCC and international markets. Within two years, that number had expanded to 400 tonnes.

CONSTANT EVOLUTION

With each growing cycle, Najieb was watching and learning, constantly looking for the best ways to innovate the farm's capabilities and output. Many different growing systems were implemented, tested and refined until the best quality was achieved and being consistently produced.

The most important aspect for any of the growing systems was that it had to have a low ecological footprint, use little or no chemicals during the production and avoid genetically modified fruits and vegetables. The products focus on the best that Nature provides.

THE RECIPE FOR SUCCESS

The key to Mirak's success is innovation, adaptability and technology.

By constantly evolving our development methods and capacities with technology, we ensure we will always deliver the freshest, tastiest produce straight to our consumers.

Our farms have been the testing ground for some core developments in agriculture including the bench pot system for strawberry production - ensuring maximum yield with minimal waste.

Today we continue to strive to push the boundaries of technology to ensure we always deliver The Best of Nature.
